  6. This README describes an OS/2 device driver (LMS206.ADD) for the Philips LMS 
  7. CM205 (multisession), CM225 (multisession), CM206 and CM226 CD-ROM drives. 
  8.  
  9. The multisession CM205 has series code F and later.  Some series code E drives 
  10. were also multisession. The series code is the first character of the serial 
  11. number on the drive label on the rear of the drive.  If you have a single 
  12. session CM205 drive, use the single session device driver: LMS205.ADD.

  17. The OS/2 Philips LMS CD-ROM device driver (LMS206.ADD) supports the following 
  18. features:

  20.  Γûá Reads data from CD-ROM discs conforming to the High Sierra/ISO-9660
  21.    file formats.
  22.  
  23.  Γûá Plays audio from standard audio CDs or mixed mode CD-ROM discs
  24.    containing both data and audio
  25.  
  26.  Γûá Multisession photo CD
  27.  
  28.  Γûá Reads data from Mode 2 Form 1 or Mode 2 Form 2 sector formats

  30.  Γûá MMPM/2 Software Motion Video

  44. Before starting the installation procedure, you should unzip the files included 
  45. in the LMS206.ZIP file and copy them to a diskette. The diskette you created 
  46. will be referred to as the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette" in the 
  47. following installation instructions. 
  48.  
  49. The following files are included in the LMS206.ZIP file: 
  50.  
  51.   LMS206.ADD  -  OS/2 device driver for CM206
  52.   LMS206.DDP  -  Installation profile
  53.   README.206  -  This README file.

  56. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.1. Installation if OS/2 2.1 is already installed on your fixed disk ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  58. 1. Run the Device Driver installation program
  59.  
  60.   a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  61.   b. Open the System Setup folder.
  62.   c. Open Device Driver Install.
  63.   d. Insert the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver Diskette"
  64.   e. Select Install
  65.   f. Select the device driver to install from the list
  66.   g. Select OK.
  67.  
  68.   (Note: You do not need to reboot OS/2 before starting step 2 below).

  70. 2. After the Device Driver Installation is complete, you must run
  71.   Selective Install to install the files for the OS/2 CD-ROM Device
  72.   Manager and OS/2 CD-ROM File System.

  74.   a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  75.   b. Open the System Setup folder.
  76.   c. Open Selective Install
  77.   d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  78.   e. Select OK
  79.   f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  80.    select the choice OTHER
  81.   g. Select OK
  82.   h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  83.    screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  84.   i. Select Install
  85.   j. When prompted to do so, insert the numbered installation diskettes
  86.    or installation CD-ROM from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  89. 3. Shut down and restart your system

  92. ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ 1.2.2. Installation from the CD-ROM version of OS/2 2.1 ΓòÉΓòÉΓòÉ

  94. 1.  Make a copy of the OS/2 2.1 diskette labeled "Diskette 1"
  95.  
  96. 2.  Copy the file LMS206.ADD from the "Philips LMS CD-ROM Device Driver
  97.   Diskette" to the root directory on the copy of the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1.
  98.  
  99.   (Note: If there is not enough room on the copy of OS/2 2.1
  100.    Diskette 1, then delete the file IBM2SCSI.ADD.  If you delete
  101.    IBM2SCSI.ADD, you must also edit the CONFIG.SYS file and delete
  102.    the line BASEDEV=IBM2SCSI.ADD)
  103.  
  104. 3.  Edit the CONFIG.SYS file located on the copy of Diskette 1.
  105.   At the end of the file, add the following statement.
  106.  
  107.     BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD
  108.  
  109.  
  110. 4.  Begin the installation by inserting the Installation Diskette
  111.   into drive A and restarting the system.  When prompted to insert
  112.   Diskette 1, insert the copy that you modifed.
  113.  
  114. 5.  When the System Configuration screen is displayed during installation,
  115.   the CD-ROM Device Support field will display "None".  Do not modify
  116.   the choice and continue with the installation.
  117.  
  118. 6.  After installation is complete, and you have rebooted your system,
  119.   you will not be able to access your CD-ROM drive.  This is due
  120.   to a defect in the OS/2 2.1 install program.  To access your
  121.   CD-ROM drive, perform the following steps:
  122.  
  123.   a. Copy the following files from the OS/2 2.1 Diskette 1
  124.     to the drive which OS/2 was installed.
  125.     (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  126.  
  127.     COPY A:OS2CDROM.DMD C:\OS2
  128.     COPY A:CDFS.IFS   C:\OS2
  129.  
  130.   b. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file on drive which OS/2 was installed
  131.     and add the following statements to the end of the file:
  132.     (Note: the example assume C:, change if different)
  133.  
  134.     DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD /Q
  135.     IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  136.  
  137.   c. Shut down and reboot the system
  138.

  140. 7.  You will need to run Selective Install to copy over some remaining
  141.   system files.

  143.   a. Open the OS/2 System folder on the desktop.
  144.   b. Open the System Setup folder.
  145.   c. Open Selective Install
  146.   d. Select the CD-ROM Device Support check box
  147.   e. Select OK
  148.   f. Scroll to the bottom of the CD-ROM device list table and
  149.     select the choice OTHER
  150.   g. Select OK
  151.   h. Select the OK push button to proceed from the System Configuration
  152.     screen to the OS/2 Setup and Installation window
  153.   i. Select Install
  154.   j. When prompted to do so, insert the installation CD-ROM
  155.     from the OS/2 2.1 product.

  168. This section lists the parameters which are supported for the Philips LMS 
  169. CD-ROM device driver.  The parameters can be changed by modifying the 
  170. BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD line in config.sys. 
  171.  
  172. For the LMS206.ADD device driver, the syntax for the line in config.sys is as 
  173. follows: 
  174.  
  175.   BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD [/P:nnn] [/u:X] [/m:Y] [/V]

  180.    Specifies the base I/O port address of the interface card.
  181.    The value must be the same number as the port address selected
  182.    by the jumper on the host interface card.

  187.    Identifies a specific unit, X.

  189.    Valid values for X are 0, 1, 2, 3.  The default is zero.

  191.    LMS206 locates all CM250 and CM260 host adapters and assigns unit
  192.    numbers based on the order in which each was found.

  194.    This parameter tells LMS206 which BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD line it is
  195.    currently processing.

  200.    Indicates the number of 2500 byte CD frame buffers that should
  201.    be allocated by the LMS206.ADD driver.

  221. 1. If you are not able to access the CD-ROM drive:

  224.   a. Add the /V parameter switch to the BASEDEV=LMS206.ADD statement
  225.    in your CONFIG.SYS file.  For example:

  230.    After rebooting, the device driver will display the list of
  231.    drives it has identified.  For example:

  256.   b.  Check that the adapter is properly installed.

  258.     Ensure that all cables are attached properly.

  260.     Ensure that the CD-ROM host adapter uses a unique
  261.     I/O port address and a unique IRQ channel number.

  264.   c.  Make sure all the required files to operate the CD-ROM drive have
  265.     been installed.  Your CONFIG.SYS file should have the following
  266.     statements:

  270.      IFS=C:\OS2\CDFS.IFS /Q
  271.      DEVICE=C:\OS2\MDOS\VCDROM.SYS

  275.     If you do not have the OS2CDROM.DMD or CDFS.IFS statements in
  276.     your config.sys, you must use the OS/2  2.1 Selective Install
  277.     utility to install these files.

  281. 2.  If the drive letter assigned to the CD-ROM drive under OS/2 is
  282.   different than the drive letter assigned under DOS.
  283.  
  284.   The CD-ROM drive is assigned the next available drive
  285.   letter after drive letters have been assigned for the
  286.   floppy drives and fixed disk drives.
  287.  
  288.   The drive letter is also assigned after any installable block
  289.   device drivers which are located in config.sys before the
  290.   DEVICE=C:\OS2\OS2CDROM.DMD statement (i.e. DEVICE=C:\OS2\VDISK.SYS).
  291.  
  292.   There is currently no mechanism in OS/2 for assigning a specific
  293.   drive letter for the CD-ROM drive.  The drive letter assignment
  294.   under DOS can be controlled by using the /L switch on MSCDEX.EXE
  295.   command line.
